Someone wrote me back today after I sent out an email promoting The Empower Network. If you don’t know, The Empower Network sells courses on making money online, and also offers the opportunity to sell those courses.
Some people do very well learning from and selling their courses.
So I recommend people do that, and offer help to people who buy them through me. (buying from anywhere else means you do NOT get my personal help)
So, this guy wrote me this email:
“The massive earnings for this type of system (empower network, etc.) are “extraordinary” and it says that at the bottom of the website you link to. It doesn’t work for 98% of people.
I’m all for residual income and affiliate marketing, but pushing a system that ultimately work for a few people is not something EVERY actor needs to do or CAN do.
I like a lot of your advice Bones, but pushing these pyramid-type systems is not for me.
It leaves a weird taste in my mouth when I’m trying to swallow the other valuable information you talk about.”
And I answered him:
Thanks for writing; I appreciate the guts it took to say that instead of just hiding and making assumptions. It means you like what I’m doing and teaching, just not what you think is a pyramid thing.
I don’t blame you- if I were you, I might feel the same thing. I just have a little more info on it than you do. But let me tell you first:
those incomes are extraordinary.
and 98% of people won’t make any money
…Just like in acting.
Actually, your “chances” as an actor are even worse.
But in the acting business, some people UNDERSTAND that it’s up to them.
But many don’t, right? They say things like “Hollywood won’t let me…”
or some other bullshit.
In this affiliate program (and EVERY other business that has EVER been),
only a small percentage ever do what’s required to be successful.
So, if you like my advice, here it is:Take your OWN responsibility for your own results.
My acting career is CRAPPY in my opinion, but I’ve earned more than 98% of actors
in their lifetimes.
By doing BARELY the minimum…. you know what I mean.
Again- I think I have been a TERRIBLE business owner of my acting business,
but have still earned $400,000. Just commercials; no film, 4 tv spots.
Can you imagine if I told people they can be actors and make $400,000
WITHOUT doing film or TV?
People would call me a “scammer”, and whatever the hell else, right?
I have this conversation with myself often, and I sometimes think I shouldn’t bother giving people an opportunity like Empower, but the truth is that the courses they sell taught me a LOT, and the affiliate program has been great for me too.
I don’t expect the business “to work”, I bought the courses, and am an AFFILIATE for them.If I want to make money, the business doesn’t “work”- I do stuff to make it work.
I don’t know if you understand the difference there, but if you have bought any
of my courses (and read them), you would. You sound like you do, but let me tell you how I know beyond a doubt.
Just sell other people’s stuff, and get paid!
That’s one of the things I teach people.
Sounds “too good to be true”, but it is true!
You’d think that people would just LINE UP to learn something like that,
wouldn’t you? You’d be SHOCKED if I told you how many people buy my book and NEVER read it.Or take my classes, and then STOP showing up to learn. And since I have my own affiliate program (I pay people to sell NoMoreWaiters), I can tell you that very few sales are from affiliates.
And it’s mostly the SAME affiliates…Wanna see?
“not set” and “Bonesrod” are me… that means that of the 34 sales in this period,
only 4 sales were from affiliates-and one of those had made sales before. But what I really want you to notice is the “hop count”,
which says how many people visited the site through someone’s link.
2, 4, 6,1, etc… that’s the usual. But here’s the SCARY PART- the top says there are “536 items found”.See that?It means that there were 536 affiliates who sent clicks, and of those, only 3 made sales.
3 people out of 536.
But does affiliate marketing work? YUP.
Just ask MRoldan– she only sent 30 clicks- and made 2 sales.
Don’t you think most people would do AT LEAST that?
Well, they don’t.
People just give up on stuff- all the time.I do it too- DEFINITELY 😀
But I’m not blaming anyone for it.
Did you know that 67% of people with Gym memberships NEVER go?
(As in not even once… like, they pay, but NEVER enter!)
But do gyms “work”? Of course!
I get people who say “Bones’ stuff doesn’t work”, and I’m like
“Really? What did you DOOOOO?”
The answer is ALWAYS- 100% of the time- SILENCE.
Sooooo, I already have a business in selling information,
I sent this email out to some friends, and I thought I’d post it here too:
I know you haven’t heard from me in a bit, but you were a member
of Empower Network for a little while, and I want to let you know what
happened with me…
I joined like 2 years ago, because I liked the hype of “100% commissions”
and all of that, but I was also turned off by that same hype.
I just figured it was a cool new “deal”, and I was willing to try it out.I told a few people who knew about this kind of stuff, but I didn’t really promote it publicly, y’know? Some people told me it was a scam.
But I just watched the videos, used the blog, and learned from the courses,
Sometimes I’m not very clear… and I also don’t take my own advice.
Here’s how this started:
I have a personal friend who I just learned is in the Network Marketing company Young Living Essential Oils.
She works too hard.
Young Living makes all sorts of oils for whatever ails you, and it’s a health and wellness-based company, with all sorts of oils for the home, beauty etc.
She is excited about the opportunity, and is well-read on a lot of the books and materials on Network Marketing; she follows Eric Worre, and has a large leg that was built because she got lucky and found a builder in depth.
That’s all great, but she’s been at it for a while, and not seeing the results she wants, or expects for the time and energy she’s putting in because:
She is being taught to build the business like it was still 1995.
In order to learn from me, and what I’ve been doing with No More Waiters, she asked for an appointment to “chat” at a Starbucks, and since she was a personal friend, I said yes.
This was my first mistake. I often tell people not to have “chats” but instead to send someone to get information first- PAID information first- and then discuss whatever they want.
Only “talk” to CUSTOMERS.
Why? Because they are better informed, and show some commitment by paying.
But she was a friend, and I didn’t want to be… “mercenary”; I was trying to be helpful.
I couldn’t understand why she didn’t just want to get on the phone, or buy any of the materials that I obviously recommend so that she could learn how to do things differently, but I said what the heck- it was nice to reminisce about coffee shop meetings.
I learned that she was doing tables and booths at conventions and trying to retail the oils, hoping to find some motivated customers.
She was doing presentations on a whiteboard at an office space, trying to get the NY team motivated and grow the presence in the city.
She is working too HARD.
And not getting results.
When we sat down I tried to explain to her that those methods are too old, and frankly, that no one would want to duplicate her.
I said “NO ONE WANTS TO DUPLICATE YOU”
She wanted to meet with me, because my EXAMPLE is one that people would like to emulate- I send out some emails, and live my life.
Yes, I sit at this computer at times, but it’s always in pursuit of a new idea or something.
It is NOT to retail some produtcs.
I also tried to explain to her that although Eric Worre is a big champion for the industry, that what he actually DOES is internet marketing, and to follow his example instead of his teachings about home meetings and “coffee plans”.
I then told her what I thought would be the LIGHTBULB moment for her:
You see, in the gold rush, although many, many people were out looking for gold, it was the people selling shovels and jeans that made all the money.
The money is in the tools.
But also to use the tools to grow her business.
I tried explaining that what we were doing here with Empower is to teach people how to grow their business online, and to give them the shovels to do it with.
And to ALSO sell the shovels.
She got it.
A few hours later, she texted me saying that she wanted to write a booklet on Young Living products that would help other reps sell the oils.
I told that’s a good idea, but frankly would be a nightmare to do legally and probably not worth the money.
I sent her the capture page for the TEAM BUILDING FORMULA so she could buy the blueprint and start to learn how to build her business online:
I thought she would buy it immediately, but she didn’t.
I actually should have told her to BUY IT, but I didn’t.
Again, trying not to be…”Mercenary”.
So, I also sent her the ATTRACTION MARKETING FORMULA from Elite Marketing Pro, but I think it confused her because she didn’t buy it either, and instead asked about “buying in” to the different companies.
See, had I just said “Buy the TEAM BUILDING FORMULA, and then we’ll talk” then she would have had a better understanding of all the info I dumped on her.
On top of all of this, someone I know just quit her job because she had a “good month” in her Arbonne business. She didn’t sponsor anyone, but she had a few “promises” from her friends that they would be customers.
So- I have been thinking about all of this for a few days, and here I am writing this post.
And I’m writing it in the hopes that the next time I encounter someone who is being told by her upline to do meetings and spend ALL that time and energy away from her family and life, that I will SELL FIRST.
Here’s the process- in 6 steps:
1- Start a blog about the benefits of your product
2- Sell an INFORMATION product that promotes your main product.
3- Sell your main product by using the power of the internet to work for you instead of doing meetings yourself.
4- Offer the opportunity to do what you just did.
5- Teach them to do what you just did.
6- GET RICH.
Sounds simple, right?
Well, it actually isn’t!
Because- as you can see, there’s a lot to learn.
And then there’ll be a lot to teach.
BUT HOLD THE PHONE.
WAIT A SECOND.
STOP THE PRESSES.
What if you didn’t have to do it?
What if you could just send someone through a done-for-you system that not only showed them how to set all of that up, but taught them the principles of it, AND PAID YOU FOR SENDING THEM THERE?
That’s Empower Network.
That’s what we’re doing here.
It’s not for prospects- it’s for REPS.
It’s the shovel that actually teaches you HOW TO SHOVEL and find the gold.
